Make Your Pomeranian Training Efficient

Tags: , , ,

2008-11-20Due to their small body built Pomeranians are always regarded as cute, loveable, and huggable dogs. But beneath its furry body lies a great personality. They are considered as intelligent and very loyal. Aside from that, they do not serve only as show dogs but also as watch dogs. They come in various shades of white, chocolate-color, cream, orange, blue, tan, black and a combination of these colors.

Poms loves to stare that is why many people think they are friendly little creatures. Actually it is a part of the Poms nature to stare which makes them appear curious and playful. This innate cleverness makes Pomeranian training easier. Like all pets they need housebreaking so they won’t be a bother or trouble around the house.

Its housebreaking should include potty training. This training can be a bit messy at first but in the long run your Pom will realize what you want it to do. Before you begin any Pomeranian training, be sure that you will provide a lot of your time for this. This activity is not expected to occur only in just one night so be prepared to allot quality time with your Pom.

Extra patience is highly needed because you have to show your pet for several times regarding how to do its thing in its proper designated area. You may allot one to one and a half months for its training depending on your Poms pick up. Another thing that you need to remember is to use words consistently.

Choose the words you would want to command your pet such as “go”, “potty” or “out” and stick to that. Do not try to give different commands every other day because your pet might be confused. By using command words repeatedly your Pom will be able to register that to their minds and when they hear the sound of it they will react and obey.

This obedience training takes time so be patient until your pet is able to respond to you. Be careful also with your gestures and body languages every time you command your dog. If you bend a little instead of just standing straight you might catch your dog’s attention. This kind of gesture invites closeness.

You can also try to squat to be a bit closer and try to talk to your pet. Hold their face and try to get their attention to focus only to you. Another thing when giving a command, avoid using negative or harsh words. Do not shout at your Pom just say the words in a loud but sweet tone.

Never try to reprimand your pet especially when you can’t get them to do their potty or any other stuff. It is part of their learning process so do not try to hurt them in any manner such as giving them a kick or tossing them up and down. Not giving treats if also a form of negative reinforcement so give a little allowance for your pet especially on its first week.

Everybody needs adjustment to try new stuffs including dogs. Pomeranian training takes time but remember that your pet is intelligent so it will learn fast. Give your Pom rewards every time it attains something so that it will know that you are paying it attention and giving it importance.
