 Beagles are small, cute, loving and playful. Perhaps the most friendly dog you can get; so friendly that it wags its tail at everybody it meets. It has many other good dog habits, but this pet does have a flaw. Its disobedience. It is one of the hardest dogs to train, some owners actually giving up on teaching tricks to this hard-headed pooch.
Nevertheless, a real dog owner would never give up on their beloved animal. To solve this problem, it's best to try and stop it from happening in the first place. Start training them at an early age - 5 weeks of age would be a good time to begin the sessions.
Nutrition plays a major part in training. Giving it the right amount of nutrients and having it well hydrated is important. Having it eat a well-balanced diet should be observed daily. This breed can be at times picky with their food. Try experimenting with different brands of commercial food. See which one it likes the best.
A beagle and its food should be compatible. Serving it with the food it likes is a must. In some rare cases, this dog won't like the taste of any commercial food at all. It'll only eat small portions of the food that you serve. If this happens, you may choose to make your own food.
Prepare something that will better suit its taste buds and packs all the nutrients it'll need. If that doesn't work consult your veterinarian for other alternatives. A special dog like this will require more than just your average training methods. It will need something to help motivate it to train.
Something that will condition it to train, such as a ball, doggy bone, or anything else it can use during training. Having things fun during the sessions will make learning for this dog easier. If these things are only used during the sessions, the beagle will slowly begin to look forward to training.
It make take some time, but eventually (hopefully) your pet will learn to actually love training. The attention span of a beagle is short. Implore methods that will prevent its mind from drifting. Aside from that moral support for the pet will help. Complimenting it with loving and soft-spoken words is something that it loves to hear.
Remember not to overdo it though – spoiling a beagle makes it almost impossible to train. Knowing when to be firm or gentle is vital. Never be too hard or too lax with it - one must learn to balance the two. This breed needs to be kept in good shape for training.
It will need exercise plus a balanced diet to keep fit. It is equipped with great stamina. It will love walking and jogging. But remember to keep a collar and leash on it before letting it out of the house. This dog has a sharp sense of smell. It may wander off in search of game if left unattended.
A great pet to have; if acquired at an early age, it may not be that difficult to train a beagle.
