We consider our beloved puppies as adorable and lovable little creatures. They are very cute and cuddly with their charming faces and warm eyes that make everyone hug and play with them. But once they start teething they turn from delightful pets to pesky monsters. They love to bite anything that comes their way—including your memorable house decors and important school and business papers. This phase although natural to puppies can’t be tolerated. You simply have to make an effort in order to make your house puppy proof or make those drastic moves to teach that puppy of yours to behave. But how do you stop those biting problems? Hit them? Kick them? Or drown them? Of course not! Make your puppies obedient. Take note that you have to hurt them in some cases but it is for their own good. Just like a parent spanking their child for disciplinary purposes. The first method for those with severe cases is to shout “No” when your puppy bit you and place your finger under its chin and your thumb under its tongue to make it feel uncomfortable. When you shout, the puppy becomes startled so it will pull away. The pup will then realize that when it bites someone it will experience that uncomfortable feeling therefore it will stop. The second one is to use a stick or any hard object to transfer your puppy’s attention when it bites you.
You can also give your pup a chew toy for this matter. However, never or stop hitting every time it bites because it will misunderstood your gesture for playing. Just shout “No” and stop or don’t play with it. The puppy will think that you won’t play with it anymore so it will stop. The third one is to make your puppy aware that you don’t like it or it is painful when it bites you. So instead of shouting “No” you can substitute it with a loud “Ouch”. Puppies have feelings too and they are very affectionate. They know what pain is and how it hurts. The fourth one is to spray your puppy with water. They don’t like water so, do it when it attempts to bite, be the first to strike! The last one is the least harsh of all because it does not involve anything physical. They don’t like rattling noises so what you have to do is to fill an empty can with pebbles or small coins just enough to make a noise. For some reasons puppies don’t like it. Remember that you have to be firm and constant with your actions to stop it from biting. Your inconsistency may be misunderstood by your pup and will think that you are just fooling around—that you are not that serious. These measures won’t stay for a very long time so give a little patience and perseverance. After all when puppys teething is finished it will stop biting things or people. Just remember that a little regulation is always better and if you act nothing, there won’t be any result. Just play it cool because your puppy still looks that adorable even if it bites anyway.
