Dog lovers certainly want to provide their beloved pets all the love and care they can ever give. Sometimes they tend to forget that they are over providing them in the form of food—that is overfeeding. After all a little treat for such a good and bright pet is quite usual. But do you realize how many treats you give your pet as reward everyday? Maybe you are not aware but those treats can be equivalent to one or two meals already. Small amount of treats are not bad but combine them all and the effects are terrible for your dog’s nutrition. Fat dogs are becoming common in the United States that is why something must be done to safeguard the health of dogs. Just like humans dogs get fat too. All dog owners need to watch their dog’s diet. Be careful with what you feed to your pet. Scrutinize the content and make sure that it does not contain any sodium nitrite, that substance which gives the food a reddish color, propylene glycol a sweet, colorless and odorless solvent used in food colors and flavorings, and propyl gallate, which prevents the oxidation of oils and fats in food. These substances are bad for your pet’s health. Do not be fooled by those well-advertised dog food products because sometimes they contain these harmful substances. Be careful also to those products whose label indicates that it has “low calorie” or “lite diet” because they have more carbohydrates. More carbs means that more sugar and more fat to the body if you are not able to burn them all.
You can feed your pet with vegetables but remember that they also need protein so don’t make your dog a vegetarian. They need to chew hard food to exercise their jaws and they need other nutrients found only in meat. Create a weight loss program regarding the kind of food your pet should eat. Give some variation in their diet because different foods have different nutritional content. And your pet might lose its appetite if you are feeding it with the same kind of food everyday. Another thing that you need to watch over your fat dog’s condition is exercise. Be sure that you do not spoil them with hours after hours of leisure sleep. They need to move their muscles otherwise they become weak plus they won’t be able to burn those excess calories. In short they will turn from fat dogs to obese dogs. The term seems harsh yes, but that is the truth. If dog owners really love their pets they will not allow them to be sick and unhealthy. Obesity is one form of malnutrition so don’t think that your dog is still healthy because you are giving it a little more of food or love or care. When you jog early in the morning, bring your pet along with you. It would be nice if both of you are attaining to get a good shape. Proper diet and good exercise helps make fat dogs slimmer and healthier. Just be consistent with your scheme and tell the other members of the family to refrain from giving your pet treats. Remember that giving your dog a diet is a strict business because other complication can be lessened though it.
