Dandie Dinmont Terrier: Gangster Dog Breed

Tags: , , ,

If you're from an area full of gangs, and you see them quite often everyday, you'll notice the smallest member of the group acting the toughest. The dwarf seems to be talking the loudest, looking at everybody he comes across, and is the same idiot that always starts the fights – the reason behind that is that he's depending on the bigger and tougher guys he's with to save his sorry ass each and every time there is trouble. Anyways, how's the insignificance of that related to our furry friends? Well there does exist a dog breed that's very much similar to the type of guy I mentioned above, and that is the dog breed.

This pooch, like our gangster friend, is small as well – they can weigh anywhere from 18 to 24 pounds, and stand from 8 to 11 inches. It's true when they say it's longer than it is taller, but still it's considered to be a small dog breed. Moving forward, the Dandie Terrier is also tough, but it's different from the tiny gangster kind of toughness – this breed doesn't rely on its bigger companions. It relies on itself and itself alone; that plus its capabilities of tracking animals, was what dragged it into the hunting business. They may be highly intelligent, but they still haven't learned or maybe accepted the fact that they aren't physically capable of engaging the other animals out there.

That's what got it into fights with the prey it was made to look for, which included the otter and badger. Though it has been well-known for being a bad boy, it still does manage to make its way into the house of many pet owners. One of the biggest reasons for its popularity is its simply adorably irresistible cuteness, as quoted by some owners of the dog breed. The coat of the Dandie Dinmont Terrier is wiry, and comes in different color combinations. What makes it really stand out is its topknot – a tiny bush that looks like a wig on its head (very cute), and its eyes that have this look that can melt hearts.

Interested in ? Then listen to what I have to say: if you really want to take good care of one, you're going to have to start giving it canine behavioral lessons at an early age. That way you'll be able to prevent bad habits or unwanted behavior from developing. As young as it is, have it mingle with the other pets and humans in town; this way it won't be approaching them for all the wrong reasons. When it's ready to be trained, you're going to have to learn the PROPER to use on it – positive reinforcement is always better than negative reinforcement.

Shouting and hitting just doesn't work, it'll only make things worse for the both of you. Dog food is always important (since when was it not), and is preferably given 3 times daily, with the right nutritional values in each meal. This way you'll be preventing the canine disorder known as “bloating”. This dog breed is affectionate, playful, and well-suited for indoor living. Give it time for play and bonding, but you want to be gentle while you're at it – they are sensitive and can easily be hurt.
