The Belgian Malinois isn't exactly waterproof, it's more like water-resistant because water and other fluids have the tendency to slide off its fur – pretty cool if you ask me. This isn't the only dog breed that has this “unique” attribute, there are some other breeds out there that can do the same mind-blowing thing. Nothing special really, just one of its advantages if you live in a place with constant rain showers. Aside from that, it's a perceived by many to be beautiful - it has nice body structure weighing anywhere from 40 to 80 pounds and reaching a height of 22 to 26 inches. They are “sexy”, boasting an athletic and well-muscled build plus a “handsome” face, the envy of dog and man alike. The coat comes in colors ranging from mahogany to fawn and red – well complimented by its prick ears of medium length. But enough of its beauty; there are other breeds out there that can be just as beautiful and sexy. Let's talk about what the Belgian Malinois can do to make it stand out. Farmers found great use for this pooch because of its herding abilities and natural protective instinct. They may not be as big as the other giant sheepdogs tackling wolves and bears, but they still can hold up their own.
The police also used this breed as an attack dog and guard dog. Criminals on the run could be tracked down with its excellent sense of smell, which was also used for search and rescue missions. It was given a scent to track, and police would rest assure that the missing person they were out to look for would be found in no time at all. This pet is inclined towards work – they love it just as much as they need it. Raising a Belgian Malinois is very much possible, and could potentially make an outstanding family pet for the owners that KNOW how to handle this type of dog. They can be very affectionate and protective over the family that owns it – but it does come with the “alpha dog syndrome” embedded in its genes. This means that it does have the tendency to push people around and get rough with the other pets in town. Responsible pet ownership for this dog would be needed – it'll need somebody that know the right dog training methods and with strong “pleasing” personality. To own a Belgian Malinois, you're going to have to establish your authority over it as soon as possible. You want to seem as if you were its father or mother, so that it may respect and love you. A dog that's really tough on the outside has a soft spot for its human companions – they need a lot of care and attention to be rendered by its masters. Having it locked up and alone will be bad for it and lead to the rise of other canine behavioral problems. Socialization plays an important part in it's overall development and should never be neglected. Have it mingle with other animals and humans as soon as it can “see”. Meals should be given 3 times daily; dog food given to it should contain all the nutrients that'll need to get it through the day. Give it plenty of water to keep it hydrated. Taking it out on walks and jogs would be good for its exercise needs – keeping the Belgian Malinois happy and satisfied will ensure a healthy relationship between the both of you.
