And if you are giving it homemade diabetic dog food it is very okay provided that you have superior knowledge of the nutritional needs of your diabetic dog. You may ask your vet what books or websites she/he can recommend if you don't have book recipes on hand.

Some pet owners might say that some so-called that they get from books or websites are not recipes at all and causes even serious health problems to their pets, that is according to their research. But always remember to coordinate with your vet for proper guidance if anything gets worse. What are the solutions for diabetic dogs? Not only controlling carbohydrates and sugar intake are the only things that are to be monitored but also the amount of food and frequency of their food intake is another important thing.

Giving them smaller meals two to three times a day compare to one large meal is also highly recommended. Because one large meal a day will usually result to high insulin spike with a drop in a matter of twelve hours. So giving them two or three smaller meals a day as recommended is a better diet because their blood sugar level are being stabilized. And don't forget to have constant check ups with the vet.
