About Dog Arthritis And Your Pet

2008-12-08Dogs exist to be the best human companion of all times. Although some other animals such as cats, birds, and pigs make a good buddy, dogs are still the most preferred. They are very affectionate, playful, and fun to be with. Among the many things only dogs can do are lick your face, play hide and seek or throw a ball back and forth, guard you, your love ones and your properties and keep you company whenever you want.

Owning a dog has its own pros and cons. How you see your pet depends on your perspective. But having a vision that you will share a lot of memories together must definitely be in your mind. The primary reason probably as to why you adopted a pet is to have somebody to care for and reciprocate you with attention, too.

However, like everything else in this world, dogs are not permanent. But you have the option to make their stay happy and healthy. If you have a healthy dog, the number of activities that you could do are unlimited. Just make sure that they are legal! Nothing hampers any active and sporty activity you can think of because your pet is sure to cope whatever breed it is.

Keeping your dog healthy should be your top priority. On the other hand certain diseases are sure to attack your pet whether you like it or not. One example is dog arthritis. This disease causes problems regarding your pet’s physical built by causing inflammation to its joints. Just imagine the difficulty and pain every time your pet attempts to move! Basically, there are two known types of dog arthritis: the inflammatory and degenerative.

The inflammatory dog arthritis causes multiple joint problems accompanied by fever and anorexia while degenerative dog arthritis causes your pet’s cartilage to literally degenerate at a faster pace. You will notice your pet has difficulty in walking, running, sitting, and jumping. It just prefers to sleep all day and avoid any movements.

Sometimes you will even observe behavioral problems. If you notice your pup behaving like this for about two weeks, its time you bring it to a veterinarian. There are many possible treatments depending on your dog’s condition. Your vet will advise you to change its diet and try simple exercises that it can manage.

This treatment can be administered whether your pet was diagnosed early or not. On the other hand you may also make use of medicines such as non-steroidal drugs, glucosamine chondroitin and sulfate and fatty acids such as omega. Glucosamine supplement comes in two forms in tablet and in liquid. However, recent studies favor liquid glucosamine for dog arthritis treatment because it has a higher absorption rate as compared to the tablet and it is much more effective.

When your pet has dog arthritis never take it for granted. Arthritis in humans is very painful and has lots of consequences. Even dogs are not exempted. If ever you are suffering the same disease then you might have a clear idea as to how painful it really is. And if you have medications, do not attempt to administer them to your pet.

What you should do is to visit a vet to monitor its condition. Early detection and prevention is always better because it takes you one step ahead.
