Whenever your canine friend suffers from illnesses you really want to do something to ease the pain it feels rather than sit and watch. Your pet’s painful experiences will never seem to end if you would just stare at the situation. You have to do something to lessen or even eliminate the pain. The best way to help your pooch is to be aware of the things that cause its illnesses. One of these diseases is canine dermatitis which causes skin inflammation. Whenever this disease attacks your dog it feels severe itchiness which makes it scratch like crazy. You will normally see you pooch scratching first thing in the morning until evening and during it sleeps. Your pet becomes irritable and its once healthy coat becomes dull, lifeless and ugly. Its fur becomes thinner and its hairs begin to fall off. You would never want to see your pooch in this horrible situation. So it would be better if you could get some information regarding canine dermatitis. This disease should never be taken for granted because once your beloved pet acquires this, you will be really sorry. There are currently four types of canine dermatitis termed as atopic, contact, flea, and moist. Canine atopic dermatitis is caused by allergens in the dog’s environment or due to your pet’s faulty genes.
Those that are caused by heredity appear when the dog is between 10 months and 2 years old. It usually causes itchiness in the eyes, nose and paw areas. On the other hand those that are caused by the environment are due to allergic reactions to pollens from grasses, trees, and weeds. It can also come from house mites, molds, and dust. Canine dermatitis due to contact as the name suggests is due to getting contact with substances that cause irritations to your dog’s skin. This type is caused by materials that contain harmful substances such as acids, bleach, fertilizers and other cleaning solutions. Only the affected area usually gets swollen with red patches and causes severe itchiness which gets even worse when your pet scratches it. The next type of canine dermatitis is caused by flea allergy. This is actually caused by the fleas’ saliva so the disease is transmitted through a bite. This causes severe itchiness in the affected area which can lead to hair loss, skin rashes and hot spots usually in the neck, lower back, legs and upper tail. The last type is the development of raw, moist areas in your pet’s body which is caused by excessive scratching and licking. This usually occurs during summer seasons where the weather is hot and humid. Having a moist skin inhibits the growth of bacteria and other microorganisms which can lead later on to a more serious skin disease. If you don’t want your pet to have this skin problems, you must make sure that the environment is clean and if possible be free from allergy causing substances. It is also important that you keep your dog clean. Wash its coat and teeth regularly and when you notice that it is scratching beyond normal get it to veterinarian right away. Do not wait for its skin to swell and break. Be one step ahead of the situation because an early detection of a disease is always better.
