Anybody can own a pet, but not everybody can take care of one. When people buy a dog solely on its appearance, they usually end up wishing they haven't. They later find out that the dog is too much of a burden. It makes a lot of mess in the house. This can be very bad if your living in an apartment without outdoor space. Some dogs demand more maintenance, which can consume a lot of time you don't have if your the type that's tied up with work. Others can be too noisy for you, while the rest may be too stubborn for training. You may have purchased a big dog that you wanted to watch the house while your out; only to find out that its too friendly, even with strangers. Different breeds have different qualities and attitudes that may or may not fit your lifestyle. There are many frustrated pet owners out there that have made the mistake of choosing an incompatible breed. The result being an unhappy relationship between man and dog. All of this could have been avoided if an owner were to have researched before getting the pet. One of the most lovable breeds with the most likable traits is the Labrador Retriever. It's a big dog - this pooch has a solid and muscular build.
It has a big and strong head, with ears that are medium in length, going downwards the sides of its face. Its looks intelligent (it is), and has an almost human expression on its face. It's quite bulky, and heavy too. It weighs 55 to 75 pounds at average, but there are some that can actually weigh more than 100 pounds. It's tall as well, standing at an average of 21-24 inches. It has a beautiful water-resistant coat that is thick and has short hairs. Because of its length, not much grooming will be needed. Regular brushing will still be necessary, but it's much easier as compared to the maintenance required by other breeds. In terms of beauty, it's a handsome dog. The Labrador Retriever is compatible with all kinds of lifestyles. They are very gentle creatures, making them safe to have around children. They are sweet and affectionate, and love being around humans. The sense of being part of a family will be needed for this dog. It will demand attention from the members of the household. It doesn't like feeling left out. If your a hunter, then you'll enjoy having this pooch by your side. Its original function in the past was hunting game. It can serve well as a guide for the blind. If your into outdoor activities, this animal will get along well with you. It loves running or just taking walks. This is one of the few breeds that like swimming. They have wide paws which makes them pretty good at it. If your the indoor type, it fares well inside the house. Give it a lot of love and attention - allow it to socialize with other people and pets as well. Training this dog will be easy. It is very obedient and learns fast. Regulating this dogs diet is a must. It will try to finish everything you feed it even if it's full. So remember to feed only what's needed. If you've done your research, and still don't know which breed is right for you, then I suggest you get yourself the Labrador Retriever.
